Single Vision Lenses
In the majority of cases, this is what the first time spectacle wearer will require. As the phrase suggests, single vision lenses offer a single focal power and correct close-up or distance vision.

Single vision lenses are worn for reading if you are long sighted and for distance if you are short sighted.

Bifocal Lenses
There will come a time in your life, usually in your forties, when you will need glasses to improve both close-up and distance vision. One option is to have two pairs of spectacles but this can be both inconvenient and frustrating.

Bifocals are two lenses in one, enabling the wearer to see clearly at two points only, close-up and distance. However they cannot cater for the intermediate distances.

Progressive (Varifocal) Lenses
If you prefer not to wear different spectacles for distance and near and want to avoid the restriction of bifocals, the perfect solution is progressive lenses. Not only will these lenses look better cosmetically because they have no dividing lines or segments, but they will also offer complete vision at all distances.

Lens Materials
In the UK most people prefer plastic lenses because they are lighter and safer than glass lenses.

The choice of the plastic material used determines the thickness of the lenses for any given power. Depending on your prescription, your optician may recommend 'high index' lenses which are thinner than standard plastic lenses.

Light-Reactive Lenses
These lenses react so quickly and efficiently to changing light conditions, you can wear them literally anywhere. They also react proportionately inside a car, making them safe for driving both day and night.

Polaroid Lenses
When bright sunlight is reflected off a horizontal surface it often creates a harsh white light known as glare. Common examples of this are wet roads on bright days and shimmering seaside views! The result of glare is seriously reduced vision and some discomfort.

Polaroid lenses are constructed in such a way that 99% of all this horizontal glare is blocked out.

What’s more, Polaroid lenses also block out the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays which can cause permanent damage to the human eye. Polaroid lenses are not suitable for night driving.

Anti-Reflection Coatings
Why spoil a beautiful pair of spectacles with unsightly lens reflections. Anti-reflection coatings eliminate annoying lens reflections, helping you to see better and also make your spectacles more aesthetically pleasing.
